Artist Bio

Luc Sokolowski is an artist and GIS analyst living and working in the Houston area. He has masters degrees in art from UT Dallas and the University of Houston. His professional experience in geographic information science informs his approach to abstract painting, which is hard-edge, geometric, generative, and has affinities with optically based art. Sokolowski combines acrylic painting with the use of an online random number generator to create dynamic and colorful works that blend chance and order, as well as the digital and the handmade. As a counterpoint to the predictive algorithms of Artificial Intelligence, in his art Sokolowski investigates the unpredictable, creating maps of the random which suggest the geography of chaos. Sokolowski’s randomly generated paintings have been exhibited in multiple venues in both Dallas and Houston, Texas.
