Artist Bio

Born in New York City in 1978, Luc Sokolowski has an M.A. in Aesthetic Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas and an M.F.A. in Studio Painting from the University of Houston. Luc is a painter who is in conversation with traditions of abstract art, in particular the concrete art movements of Europe and Latin America, American Minimalism and Op Art, as well as pre-modern forms of geometric expression. Luc’s professional experience in geographic information science also influences his approach to abstract painting. His works evoke the glowing polygons of parcel grids when viewed digitally on a screen. Rather than showing aerial perspectives of physical geography, however, Luc’s geometric paintings present idiosyncratic musings of hypothetical spaces.
