Here’s a rough picture of the evolution of my new Gridscroll concept. About ten years ago, I was painting curvilinear abstract objects that I called ‘Impossible Scrolls’. Fast forward to 2021, I was flattening out the picture plane and focusing on color interaction through intersecting stripes, and then bisected squares in a checkerboard format. Surprisingly, this now has led me back to the scroll shape, although in a rectilinear and thus very schematic form.
